Benefactor Merial Limited Thanked, Given Plaque - Merial Limited was recognizied for its extraordinary contributions to the animal sciences at Washington State University. Named a Benefactor of the university, a plaque in recognition of Merial Limited's contributions was presented to Dr. Stewart Bauck, executive director of IGENITY Livestock Production Business Unit, on October 17, 2007. Cougar Flour Power Is Model of Sustainable Agriculture - The majority of wheat grown in eastern Washington is consumed far from the region’s rolling hills. But thanks to a growing business partnership between Washington State University Dining Services and Columbia Plateau Producers--producers of Shepherd’s Grain flour--more and more of the crop is being milled and consumed locally. Ensminger Pavilion Renovated Thanks to Your Gifts - Built in 1933, this building was known for decades as the Livestock Judging Pavilion. Thousands of animal science students have taken classes in the pavilion while archaeology students once practiced excavation techniques in one wing. But the pavilion has always been much more than a classroom. Read more »

Home Economics Centennial Celebration - Washington State University and the College of Agriculture and Home Economics celebrated 100 years of Home Economics at WSU September 25-27, 2003. The Centennial Celebration was a chance to meet old friends as well as seeing firsthand how home economics has changed over the years. Read more »

Interior Design Alum LEEDs the Way - Lauren Hall (Interior Design, 2007) says she wants to "open people's eyes to the possibilities of smart design." Aesthetics and profit are important, she says, but just as important is design "that communicates with the surrounding environment and responds to a global responsibility for efficient design." Hall is intently focused on spreading the word about sustainability--so intent that she sat for and passed a design-and-build examination usually only tackled by professionals. Read more »

Kidwell Named Associate Dean of Academic Programs - Kim Kidwell, spring wheat breeder and an award-winning teacher and advisor in the WSU College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences, has been appointed the new associate dean for academic programs in the college. She will assume her new responsibilities Aug. 1. Read more »

Win-Win: Cook Farm Research Helps Bottom Line and Sustains Environment - James Cook was honored in June, 2007 with the dedication of the R. James Cook Agronomy Farm. With the 140-acre farm, Washington State University is playing a major leadership role in an agricultural transformation as revolutionary as the conversion from horses to tractors. The changes involve nothing less than the “retooling” of the region’s agriculture. At the same time, the research serves both the needs of farmer’s to sustain themselves economically and the public’s need for more environmentally sustainable food production. Read more »
