Center for Sustaining Agriculture and Natural Resources
The Center for Sustaining Agriculture and Natural Resources (CSANR) acts as a facilitator to bring together interdisciplinary teams, both within WSU and in partnership with other organizations. The Center provides education on key and emerging issues through conferences, publications, a Web site, satellite broadcasts, field demonstrations and answering direct questions. Sustainability is meeting present needs without compromising the future. WSU is meeting the challenges of sustainability, and the CSANR is an important leader in that area.

WSU Master Gardener Program
The Washington State University Extension faculty in King and Pierce counties founded the "Master Gardener" movement in late 1972, with the first training classes commencing in January of 1973.
Since then, the Master Gardener Program has spread across the nation and overseas, making it a historic, sociological "grassroots" movement with widespread impact.
It is considered a premier program within Washington State University, being the only uniquely WSU program with such widespread adoption. WSU Master Gardeners are university-trained to provide public education in gardening and home horticulture based on researched-based information.
They use their training to "grow" their communities by educating thousands of school children across the state, staffing "plant clinics" in over 170 locations, conducting and promoting projects with environmental themes, providing horticulture therapy to the elderly and installing accessible gardens for the disabled. They assist at community gardens to teach gardeners of all ages and races to grow their own nutritious food and they provide horticulture instruction for at-risk youth. They network with many agencies to provide fresh produce for food banks, to reclaim landfills and to teach citizens how to conserve water and protect fish through wise landscaping.
These amazing volunteers write gardening columns, participate in fairs/community events and have installed a network of 60 demonstration gardens throughout the state to provide both community beauty and instruction. Your financial support is needed to continue this great public service.
